Life Pearls
Life Pearls

http://www.lifepearls.co.uk

Lifepearls is a blog is about bringing wisdom back to the people. Wisdom is not a fabled quality possessed only by elders, lonely old women, cross-legged gurus and wizards in fantasy worlds. It is a human quality which is both a necessary life skill and a virtue. Despite it being celebrated by the Greeks, it has lost its popularity in modern society and although it may be something that may well come with experience there are often young people who are ‘wise beyond their years’.

We, at Digital Medium, Bristol were commissioned to design and develop a blog website called Life Pearls. Our client, Ally Jane, had the great concept of providing meaningful, considered and helpful advice for those that are in need and for those who wish to gain and celebrate wisdom! She asked us to design a logo that would visually encompass the significant messages she is seeking to spread. Ally Jane required a site that was easy to use, (Ally describes herself as a “technophobe“), therefore we chose to use a WordPress website which features ease of update and addition of new content. Ally found she was able to realize her vision, to present blogs covering a variety of topics designed to provide “positive, insightful and inspirational” messages which can encourage us all to make better choices in life. To ensure that these blogs reach a wider audience, all new blog posts published appear on the Life Pearls Twitter and Facebook account. We also integrated newsletter functionality where by people can add their emails to a mailing list to receive newsletters via email. These newsletters are designed in the administration area of the website.

Features:

  • Page Builder, – users can build their own pages via the admin area, which offers flexibility on size and appearance of each element on the page.
  • Contact Form
  • Logo Design
  • Social Media Integration – blog posts are published to Facebook and Twitter and all blog posts can be shared on the website via other people on any of their social media accounts.
  • Newsletter Functionality Life Pearls website allows subscription to a newsletter via a mailing list. Ally is able to create and distribute the newsletter in the admin area of the site.

Stretch Activities

http://www.stretchactivities.co.uk

We redesigned a website for London based company Stretch Activities, who deliver a range of activity classes for babies, toddlers, children with parents/carers. Georgie Mitchell and Annabel Seares came to us as they needed a redesign of the existing Stretch Activities website. We decided that there didn’t need to be so many pages and put most of the content on just one page so it was easier to access. We then created a menu with links that would scroll to different sections of the homepage.

Features:

  • Page Builder- Users can build their own pages via the admin area with flexibility on size and look of each element on the page.
  • Parallax Images
  • Image Galleries
  • Contact Form
  • Email setup – We set up email for Stretch Activities so that they can receive email from the contact form.

Eco-friendly building & carpentry services in and around Bristol

Craig Greenhorn came to us with his new business – an eco focused building company influenced by PassiveHaus. He wanted a simple website that would promote his work and services effectively, without over complicating the process. We decided that it was necessary to present two slideshows of images, to illustrate the breadth and quality of Greenhorn Homes trade and craft, along with small sections of text to explain each of his services succinctly. In addition to these services, Greenhorn Homes build houses that are known as “Passive Houses” (Read about Passive Houses). This forms a key element of Craig’s working process and we needed to ensure we communicated the numerous benefits of  PassiveHaus standards to the readers of the website. To do this, we created a section dedicated to Passive Houses, which includes a 90 second video concisely describing the concept, requirements, process and benefits.

To ensure that, for those interested in his services, there would be an easy means of contacting Greenhorn Homes, we created a contact form at the bottom of the site. This sends an email to Greenhorn Homes to which they can then respond to any inquiries or queries.

Features:

  • Parallax Images
  • Contact Form
  • Video section – an extremely effective method of conveying information.
  • One page site – The whole website uses just one page, therefore allowing more creative and interesting design.
  • Links to social media sites – enabling greater interaction with the site.

I’m Amazing
I’m Amazing

www.imamazing.co.uk

We made this website for a company called I’m Amazing, who produce and sell their nutritious and delicious salad. Chris came to us needing a website that would allow people to look at the salad and see information about the ingredients that are used to create the salad. In order to do this, we felt it was important that people should be able to see pictures both of the salad and the fresh ingredients to show the salad to its full potential. In addition to this, when pictures of the ingredients are clicked, users are then able to read the information about each ingredient and see what each ingredient brings to the salad. Also there is plenty of information about where people can buy the salad from including links to companies that stock the I’m Amazing salad. All of this information is all on just one simple webpage with menu items linking to sections of the page rather than different pages.

Features:

  • Parallax Images
  • Contact Form
  • One page site – The whole website uses just one page
  • Email setup – We set up email for I’m Amazing so that they can receive email from the contact form.

Renewable Energy Partner
Renewable Energy Partner

www.rnepartner.com

We made this website for Renewable Energy Partner, a project development company that specialise in renewable energy projects in the Middle East and Africa. Adel came to us with an existing WordPress site that was not being used to its full potential. Its content was structured but very unappealing to the eye. So we decided to retain most of the text and some of the images, but just make it look a bit more interesting. Adel also had a lot of events and conferences he attended every year and so we thought it would be great if users could keep track of when these events take place. So there is a news and events which has a list of events he has attended or is attending, along with a calender so that users can look at what events are coming up on a month-by-month basis and each event has their own page so that you can see all of the details for each event. Adel can manage all of this in the admin area of his site. We also produced the same site but in French at http://www.enrpartner.com.

Features:

  • Event Management- Events can be added, edited and viewed allowing users to see what events Renewable Energy Partner are attending and the details of those events.
  • Language Switcher- Users can switch between the English and French site via links in the main menu.
  • Page Builder- Users can build their own pages via the admin area with flexibility on size and look of each element on the page.
  • Parallax Images
  • Image Galleries
  • Contact Form

Alan Brice Welding & Storage Systems Website
Alan Brice Welding & Storage Systems Website

We made this website for Bristol based Mobile Welder; Alan Brice. Alan came to us after experiencing huge costs to keep his previous website online – being charged premium business rates normally associated with large scale corporations not small independent tradesmen. The previous site Alan had was rather outdated, with only a single small box at the centre of the page providing very basic information, no imagery and the design was rather dull and uninspiring. We met with Alan and worked with him to produce a list of features to include on the site, during this process Alan mentioned a second skew to his services – Storage Systems and this inspired us to create a dual sided website with two independent domain names. By combining the structures of the two sites we have created a seamless experience for the user, the two sites have an almost identical structure but with one mirroring the other in its layout – this is the only clue the user is given that they’ve actually moved onto another website. By doing this we allow Alan’s site to appear independently in google for both mobile welding searches and storage systems searches in google rather than one domain and one landing page coming up for both. This in effect doubles Alan’s effective online reach.

Features:

  • 4 Page Custom Wordpress Site x2 – Doubled across two domains and interlinked for a seamless experience.
  • Dynamically loading information – email address etc updates depending on what side of the site you are on (Welding or Storage)
  • Custom Imagery
  • Contact Forms

Home Care Blog Website
Home Care Blog Website

We created a blog site for Wiltshire based Domiciliary company Enterprise Care to drive more traffic to their business website enterprisecare.co.uk

The homecareblog.co.uk acts as a first port of call for people to land on when searching for home care in Wiltshire hampshire and Dorset. The aim of the blog is to provide high quality content rich articles which are interesting, and informative. With this in mind we helped Enterprise Care create an informative guide used to advise and educate people about the care options available. This method builds up trust with potential customers, making them more likely to buy services because they have found a source of information which is 1 unbiased and 2 enables them to make more in informed decisions. Providing quality information helps build a stronger brand image, and therefore makes it more likely for people to go to your site.

We use WordPress to create our blogs because they come with a number of benefits. The blog format allows for immediate publication of new jobs, information and updates straight to browsers directly. The blog is also integrated with the various social media platforms allowing for a more streamlined and organised way to interact with users on all representative sites and profiles for enterprise care and On WordPress.com, you can easily add pages to your blog in seconds.

Manor Farm Cottage Website
Manor Farm Cottage Website

Recently we helped Somerset based couple Georgie and Phillip Mitchell design a new site to help promote their beautiful holiday cottage. We thought about what was important to someone looking to get away for the weekend or a short break and also the regular visitors already frequenting the cottage. We wanted to create a site that promoted the major selling points of the house – mainly its beautiful location/surrounding areas and the visual aesthetic of the cottage itself. With this in mind we created a site that was more visually biased using a photo of the surroundings as a backdrop to the entire site and using prominent imagery with light-boxes for better viewing. The site is simple, effective and most importantly visually attractive, we hope it helps to bring Mr & Mrs Mitchell a number of new visitors.

Features:

  • Custom HTML5 site
  • Dynamic content
  • Light-boxes
  • Contact Form
  • Downloadable PDFs

Jonathan Roper Website
Jonathan Roper Website

This website was a personal website built by one of our team to market his services. He built this website using WordPress and took an existing theme and then modified it to suit his needs. This allowed him to do a lot of work without having to do too much as he was able to combine the existing WordPress software with his knowledge of PHP. Using WordPress also meant he didn’t have to set up a database to store all of the projects. Once he had done this, it meant that new pages and posts could be added easily using the WordPress interface instead of having to write out HTML himself.

The site included the following functionality:

  • Bespokely designed site on proven platform.
  • Consistent page design
  • Contact form.
  • Mailing list.
  • Content Management System (CMS).
  • Social Media integration with three social networks.
  • Hosted on our server.
